The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has provided $ 1.6 billion to the Gavi Global Vaccine Alliance to support immunization efforts for children in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

The foundation said these funds will be a five-year commitment to support Gavi’s efforts to vaccinate children in the world’s poorest countries.

The Gates Foundation also pledged to donate a total of $ 100 million to Gavi’s efforts to procure COVID-19 vaccines for poorer countries.

The event, which was aimed at raising at least $ 7.4 billion for Gavi, was attended by leaders and representatives from more than 50 countries, as well as heads of private companies.

Among them, China will allocate 20 million dollars, Spain 56.5 million dollars over the next five years, Norway 1 billion dollars and 2 billion dollars from the UK.

French President Emmanuel Macron has promised to donate 500 million euros over the next five years, as well as another 100 million euros if an effective vaccine against Covid-19 is found, while the European Commission promised the organization 300 million euros.

The final amount collected at the summit has not been disclosed.

Gavi will use the money to immunize 300 million children in the world’s poorest countries by 2025.
