A waiter at a North Carolina restaurant got a surprise Christmas gift from a generous stranger: a $1,000 tip.
According to WSOC-TV, Johnny Holloway was working at Mezzaluna Brick Oven and Tap House in Hendersonville this Saturday when he got into a conversation with one of the customers. It turned out that both men had graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta – and both worked in the restaurant business.
After the stranger left after paying the $146 bill, Holloway looked at the receipt and realized the man had left a $1,000 tip. The gift was accompanied by a pithy caption, “Merry Christmas.” “It was amazing,” Holloway said, adding that he was still “shocked” by what happened. “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the tip.
I’ve never received anything like that before.” Johnny added that he decided not to spend most of the amount, instead making savings. Mezzaluna representatives have already congratulated Holloway on the tip in a Facebook post, accompanying it with a picture of the very cheque. “Congratulations to our gorgeous waiter, Johnny Holloway! – They wrote – Johnny, thank you for a great job. Merry Christmas!”
