Acquaintances of George Floyd and Derek Chauvin, who detained him on a fateful day, believe that men met long before the ill-fated arrest. According to El Nuevo Rodeo nightclub employees, Floyd and Chauvin worked together in the security service – and were in extremely strained relations.
According to one of El Nuevo Rodeo’s former employees, David Pinney, Chauvin often “behaved extremely aggressively” towards regular customers, which often became the “cause of conflict” between him and the deceased. The owner of the club, Maya Santamaria, confirmed that over the past year, Chauvin and Floyd have been on the same shift from time to time. She added that Chauvin worked outside, while Floyd worked inside, and it is impossible to say with certainty whether they met.
Pinney, in turn, has no doubt that the men were “well acquainted.” The same opinion is shared by lawyers who called for the trial of Chauvin for first-degree murder. Currently, Chovin is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and third-degree manslaughter, for which the former police officer is threatened with 40, 25 and 10 years in prison, respectively.
