In the Alps, at an altitude of more than four thousand meters, in the Valle d’Aosta region of northwestern Italy, two women froze to death.
Another man was reportedly taken to a Swiss hospital with frostbite and hypothermia.
The hikers were climbing the Monte Rosa mountain range on the Italian-Swiss border. According to emergency services, their bodies were found on the Italian side of the summit of Pyramid-Vincent and taken to a mountain hut.
The rescue operation was severely hampered by extreme weather conditions. The rescuers were not able to land until nightfall. The rescuers tried to rescue the women.
