Gone With the Wind is now showing a slavery warning

Gone With the Wind returned to HBO Ma’s streaming service, but now the film is accompanied by a warning that the plot “denies the horror of slavery.”

The 1939 film, shot on a piece about the US Civil War, was shot from the stream in early June. Vivien Leigh and Hattie McDaniel received an Oscar for their work in the film, which is in the top 100 best films of the world, but is now criticized in the United States for showing slavery.

HBO removed the film from the catalog for showing “ethnic and racial prejudices that were wrong then and now.” Under pressure from the public, Gone With the Wind returned but was accompanied by special videos for viewers discussing the historical context of the film.
