Hidden outbreak of Indian strain in Ashkelon

The Israeli Ministry of Health announced on the evening of June 24 that a “delta variant” of the Indian strain of coronavirus was detected in Ashkelon’s sewage water.

The ministry fears that this is a “hidden outbreak.” The ministry urges all who have at least one of the symptoms of coronavirus fever, cough, difficulty breathing, weakness to get tested immediately.

The municipality of Ashkelon issued a statement about a “possible hidden outbreak” in the city, stressing that there is no connection between the water supply and the sewage system, so the drinking water does not carry the risk of infection.
