How many hot dogs can a person eat?

This is a question that each of us has thought about at least once, be it academic research or reflection in the soul. Scientists finally got an answer to it.

The researchers analyzed the 39-year-old data from Nathan’s annual Coney Island Hot Dog Contest and, using mathematical modeling, calculated the maximum number of hot dogs that one person can eat in 10 minutes. The answer is 84.

The authors concluded that it is unlikely that anyone will ever be able to exceed this amount. The current world record is 74, set by a regular participant in the competition Joey Chestnut.

The study is published in the journal Biology Letters.
