Hundreds of National Guard sent to Capitol during impeachment debate

Hundreds of armed members of the National Guard were sent to the Capitol to protect congressmen during the impeachment debate of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Pictures published by the agency show hundreds of fighters inside the building of Congress. Some of them fell asleep right on the floor. It is reported that approximately 15,000 Guardsmen will help police maintain order in the capital in the coming days for the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

The storming of the Capitol in the U.S. occurred on January 6 during a rally of supporters of the current head of state who did not recognize the results of the November vote, which resulted in the election of Democrat Joe Biden as president. The rallies led to clashes with police. Five people were killed and dozens detained.

Democrats accused the incumbent president of sedition and sent a resolution to Congress on his impeachment. The vote on the document in the House takes place on Wednesday, January 13. This will be the second attempt to remove Trump from office. Trump himself considers his speech to supporters on January 6, after which the riots began, fully acceptable.
