Iced Earth leader arrested in U.S. for participating in Capitol riots

The American guitarist and leader of the heavy-metal band Iced Earth, John Shaffer, was arrested for his participation in the riots at the Capitol on January 6. The FBI’s Indianapolis division announced this on its Twitter page.

“John Shaffer was arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 incident at the Capitol. Shaffer faces six charges, including engaging in violent acts in the Capitol building. “Shaffer was allegedly among the rioters who used ‘bear spray’ on Capitol police,” the agency said in a statement.

According to U.S. media reports, Shaffer was caught in a photo that was taken during the riots. He was found among the crowd that stormed the Capitol building. The FBI later posted the photo asking for their help in finding the people who were involved in the riots.

Recall, on January 6, supporters of incumbent U.S. President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol after a rally in Washington. Due to this, the work of Congress was interrupted for several hours. During the rioting, a protester and a police officer died, and three others died of causes that were not related to violence.

Only after law enforcement removed the rioters from the Capitol were the congressmen able to approve the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the last presidential election. The House of Representatives subsequently impeached Trump. He is accused of sedition.
