California Public Utility Pacific Gas & Electric (PG & E) officially accused 84 of the deaths of local residents during a major natural fire last year.
A California electricity company pleads guilty to the deaths of dozens of state residents in the state’s largest Camp Fire, making the death of 84 people “the deadliest corporate crime in the United States.” PG & E confirms that a fire was caused by faulty equipment.
The company will be fined millions of dollars, but no one will be sentenced to prison.
Many of the victims of the fire were elderly or disabled. Some of them were found in burnt cars or houses while trying to save relatives or neighbors. About 10 thousand private houses and public buildings burned out in this fire.
