Two small passenger planes collided over Lake Ker d’Alene in Idaho, killing 8 people, according to local authorities.
Kutenai County Sheriff’s Office reports that planes that crashed into the lake were detected by sonar. So far, only two bodies have been found, the rest are considered dead. Rescuers continue to search for the remains. “At present, it is believed that there are no survivors,” the sheriff said in a statement.
Witnesses said they saw two planes colliding in the area of the Gulf of Paudhorn. The National Transportation Safety Administration is investigating the incident. There is no equipment to extract the aircraft on site, so the local authorities will have to hire a commercial group of divers.
