Nine people received gunshot wounds during a massive birthday party in upstate New York. Despite the ongoing pandemic of the coronavirus, hundreds of people came to the feast.
Witnesses say it was an annual scheduled birthday party called “Rye Day”. The event was supposed to end at 9 pm, but firing started 15 minutes before. Nine people aged 17 to 53 years received bullets. One of the wounded, a 17-year-old teenager, is in critical condition.
Police Chief Kenton Bucker said the police still have no suspect, no one has been arrested. Mayor Ben Walsh said that no special permits were issued for the celebration, which can now allow large gatherings, as coronavirus restrictions still apply. Authorities urged not to hold such massive parties because of the risk of infection.
