In Paris, France, protesters poured red paint over the entrance to the country’s ministry of health
It is reported by the American television channel CNN.
Red paint symbolized the blood of the dead from the coronavirus COVID-19. Demonstrators also opposed poor working conditions for health workers in the public sector.
The action was organized by the activist group “Attac” (Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and Citizen Action), as well as the Inter-Urgences medical staff association.
About 30 people took part in the action.
According to activists from the Attac group, medical workers have been complaining for years about lack of funding, beds and equipment so that they can properly care for patients, Reuters reports.
The proposal of the French authorities to reward medical workers “according to strict criteria” was also criticized.
During the rally, activists placed a giant banner in the form of a medal called the “Medal of Contempt” on the steps of the ministry.
“We are here to show our support to medical personnel who were at the forefront during the epidemiological crisis, but especially to require the necessary funds for him to work and to take good care of us … Medical personnel deserve more than medals and tear gas” , The Attac activist group said, alluding to clashes on June 16 when police used tear gas to health workers protesting in Paris.
According to Reuters, the French government has decided to pay a premium of 1,500 euros (1,676 dollars) to public health workers in recognition of their role in controlling the outbreak of coronavirus.
However, many doctors believe that the government should do more for them.
