The United States will tighten sanctions against Russia after the pandemic. Such a forecast was given by Dmitry Kiku, deputy director of the department of control over external restrictions of the Ministry of Finance, during an online discussion of the Valdai international discussion club.
According to him, Washington was prepared to increase pressure not only on Moscow, but also on Beijing. The trigger for this will be the upcoming US presidential election on November 3.
In late June, a group of US senators proposed including additional sanctions on the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline under construction in the draft US defense budget for fiscal year 2020-2021, which will begin on October 1. The proposal expands the scope of potential restrictions from vessels laying pipes to preparing a place for laying, digging trenches for pipes, land surveying, filling stones.
