Swedish police arrested a 70-year-old resident of Stockholm, who kept her son locked up for almost 30 years. This is reported by the BBC.

The victim’s sister told the Svt TV channel that she moved from her mother as a teenager and has not seen her brother since. According to the woman, she unsuccessfully tried to sound the alarm when her mother took her child out of school when she was 11-12 years old.

On November 29, an elderly woman was taken to hospital, then her daughter decided to visit her 41-year-old brother. The door to the apartment was unlocked, the woman went inside and found that the dwelling was in bad condition: it was dark, smelled of urine and rot, there was dirt and dust everywhere.

No one responded to her “hello”, but she heard a sound from the kitchen. Her brother was sitting in a dark corner of the room, the light from a street lamp through the window illuminated his body and his feet were covered with ulcers. When he saw his sister, the man whispered her name again and again, clearly recognizing her relative even after so many years. However, his speech was slurred, the man had almost all his teeth missing.

The victim was taken to hospital and operated on. After that, his mother was detained. She faces up to ten years in prison if found guilty of illegal imprisonment, but she denies everything.

The Swedish newspaper Expressen writes that all these 28 years the mother kept her son in isolation. The police have not yet given official estimates.

The man’s sister said that her mother’s mental problems began after the death of her first son. When she gave birth again, she named the boy after the deceased; it was as if she wanted to replace the deceased baby with a second son and overprotected him.
