In Tatarstan it was proposed to introduce criminal responsibility for refusal of treatment for drug addiction

The Committee of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan on legality and legal order approved a package of bills which proposes to toughen the penalties for violations and crimes associated with the trafficking and use of drugs.

According to the bills, the Parliament of Tatarstan wants to introduce criminal liability for repeated evasion from treatment for drug addiction. Also it will be related to the social rehabilitation of drug addicts, undergoing diagnostics or preventive measures.

Currently it’s stipulated by the administrative responsibility on 6.9.1 of the Administrative Offences Code of Russian Federation and citizens evading from it will be fined or arrested up to 30 days.

According to the draft law, if the offender has already been held administratively liable twice, he should face a more severe penalty, including imprisonment up to one year.

According to the explanatory note to the project, in the correctional institutions of the republic 30% of convicts are serving their sentences for drug offenses in 2020 – 2.8 thousand people.

Tatarstan’s initiative is planned to be sent to the State Duma for consideration.

Earlier, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia Vladimir Kolokoltsev announced the detention of a large criminal community of drug dealers, working on the Internet. According to him, the offenders were engaged in retail and wholesale trade, supplied illicit goods to the Moscow and Volgograd regions, Krasnodar region and other regions.
