A man has been taken into custody at Las Vegas airport in the US after climbing onto the wing of an aircraft preparing to take off, CNN reports.

“The Boeing 737 was due to take off for Portland when a “stowaway” appeared on its wing. He first walked around the wing, then took off his shoes and tried to climb up the wingtip. The man ended up falling to the ground. He was detained and taken to hospital.

After the incident, the Alaska Airlines plane returned to the gate for a full check-in. It departed four hours late.

Investigators believe the man got onto the runway by climbing over the airport perimeter fence.
