In the rating of world achievements in the field of engine building in 2020, presented by the authoritative American magazine Aviation Week & Space Technology, the first flight of the Russian strategic bomber-missile Tu-160M with a new twin circuit triple-shaft turbojet engine NK-32-02 got.
“The newly developed compressor and turbine blades together with improved cooling increased fuel efficiency of the turbojet twin circuit engine capable of operating in the afterburning mode,” the publication says.
In November, in the publication The Drive the new serial engines NK-32-02 for Tu-160M were recognized as the most powerful in the world power units for combat aircraft. The publication noted that the NK-32-02 develops more than 55,000 pounds of thrust at full thrust. According to The Drive, this engine will increase the range of the Tu-160M by one thousand kilometers. “The lack of engines was a serious obstacle to Moscow’s ambitious plans to resume production of the Tu-160, which was originally stopped in 1994,” – recalled the publication.
The Tu-160M with the new NK-32-02 first took off in November. The modernized bomber rocket carrier first flew up into the sky in February.
