Hundreds of Iranian scientists called on to attack the U.S. military for trying to invade the airspace of the republic. This is stated in an open letter, which 840 scientists sent to the commander of the Air Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Amir Ali Hajizadeh.
Hajizadeh was addressed as “conqueror Ain al-Asad,” the man who led the attack on the U.S. base in Iraq in January 2020. The academics asked the IRGC to strike any U.S. warplanes, especially the B-52 ultra-long-range strategic rocket bombers.
The academics pointed out that the power of the United States is exaggerated by “the Western, Zionist and Arab media,” and asked General Hajizadeh to “destroy this unrealistic and fabricated image.”
The military preparations come against the backdrop of a conflict with the U.S. that has escalated in recent months. On January 2, it was reported that the Iranian Navy has increased its combat readiness in the Persian Gulf, and in December 2020, the Pentagon strengthened its Ain al-Asad military base in Iraq. Some sources claim that Tehran fears any sudden military events. This is in part due to numerous rumors and threats by current U.S. President Donald Trump, who has promised to “punish” the country if it attacks the U.S. military in Iraq.
