Police in Istanbul brutally dispersed the “Pride Parade,” which has been banned in Turkey since 2015.
As part of the operation, police detained at least 25 parade participants. Law enforcers blocked some roads and also sprayed tear gas. There were several clashes between police and Pride Parade participants at the site.
Demonstrators with rainbow flags tried to avoid the police on other streets, but were dispersed. Footage showed police literally storming the crowd and making arrests.
The march had previously been banned on public safety grounds. Now its ban is justified by restrictions related to the coronavirus.
