A boat was found near the island of Hatijedizima in the Pacific Ocean, which was swept into the ocean after the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011.
The fishing boat was thrown into the sea by the March 2011 tsunami from the port city of Kesennuma in Miyage Prefecture. It had been floating in the ocean for ten years, and its bottom and sides were already covered in barnacles. The ship then berthed on the west coast of Hachijima Island, 650 kilometers from Miyagi.
The ship’s home port was found by the number that survived. According to the man who found the boat, it was semi-submerged but not capsized. He pulled the boat ashore and was surprised to learn its history.
