Joe Biden called on Jews to make a hashbon nefesh

U.S. President Joe Biden congratulated Jews in the United States, Israel and around the world on Rosh Hashanah. He wished that the coming year of the Jewish calendar be a year of health, healing and progress. “The holiday season, which begins Monday night, requires looking within ourselves, evaluating the past year, doing hashbon nefesh, asking questions that go beyond a particular religion: what do I want to be, what should my people be, what kind of world do we want to create?” – he said.

The Jewish New Year, he said, is a reminder that one can always change his life, start over, change the lives of those around him with kindness and compassion, correct the mistakes made, build a bridge between the world around us and the world to which we aspire.

Biden also reiterated the unbreakable ties between the U.S. and Israel and the need for an uncompromising fight against anti-Semitism.
