Kanye West will compete for US presidency as an independent candidate

American rap singer Kanye West, who had previously announced a decision to run for president of the United States in 2020, is about to run as an independent candidate. He spoke about this in a July 8 interview with Forbes magazine.

“I would run as a Republican if [the current US President Donald] Trump were not there. “I will run for the race as an independent candidate if Trump also runs,” West said.

The rapper announced that he plans to run in the US presidential race on July 5. Then he did not specify in which year he would try to become an American leader. After the performer of this message appeared on Twitter, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, announced that he fully supported him in this endeavor.

As the American publication USA Today reported, a musician may not have time to collect and register the necessary signatures of voters, since the deadline for collecting votes supporting a particular candidate expired on June 25 in several states. In a number of key states, deadlines expire in mid-July – early August.

Earlier, West said that he was going to run for president in 2024.

The election of the American leader is scheduled for November 3, 2020. The main opposing forces are the Republican and Democratic Parties. The first is Trump, his opponent is former United States Vice President Joe Biden.
