Kendrick Lamar Brings a Trio Of “Mr. Spirit” Slices To ‘Saturday Night Live’

Kendrick was the musical guest on the 48th season’s first episode of Saturday Night Live. Three songs from his newest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. This was Lamar’s fourth appearance, after performing in 2013 and 2014. He also joined Anderson in 2014 and 2018.

Lamar first performed a medley from ‘Rich Spirit and ‘N95’, in which he stood alone in a huge light box. Later, he returned to perform ‘Father Time’ and brought out Sampha (who appears on the studio version). You can see all three performances below.

Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers is Lamar’s fifth studio album. It was released in May this year by Top Dawg Entertainment. This follows 2017’s DAMN. The album includes appearances by Sampha as well as Ghostface KillahPortishead’s Beth Gibbons and Summer Walker. Lamar’s cousin Baby Keem is also featured on the album. A short film was recently released to accompany the Paige-featuring song ‘We Cry Together’.

Lamar will travel to Australia in December as part of his global tour supporting Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers will be performing in arena shows in Perth and Sydney, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
