Lebanon intensifies efforts to combat drug smuggling

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has called on the country’s security forces to intensify efforts to combat drug smuggling.

Aoun made the statement after Saudi Arabian authorities decided last week to ban the importation of fruits and vegetables from Lebanon because of the increase in drug smuggling.

Saudi Arabia said the Lebanese authorities did not take any measures to stop the smuggling. The ban on Lebanese imports began this Sunday, April 25.

According to Saudi authorities, the ban will remain in effect until Lebanon provides assurances that the authorities will take measures to stop drug smuggling.
