LGBT Hamlet to be staged in England

British actor Ian McKellen, 82, who played Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, will play LGBT Hamlet in a play that the Theater Royal in Windsor intends to stage. The first performance is scheduled for Monday, June 21.

The director of the unusual interpretation of “Hamlet,” Sean Mathias, described McKellen as a man who has an excellent understanding of Shakespeare’s work and is more suited than anyone else for the role.

Francesca Annis, Stephen Berkoff, Emmanuela Cole, Ben Allen, and many others will also appear in the production.
