Martial law declared in Haiti

After the assassination of President Jovenel Moise of Haiti martial law was proclaimed in the country.

This was announced by Prime Minister Claude Joseph, who temporarily took over the government.

“After an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers, we have decided to declare martial law throughout the country,” he announced, speaking on television.

Claude Joseph appealed to the public to unite to defend democracy and stressed that those responsible will be punished.
