Trump has an ambitious dream of withdrawing the entire American military contingent before the end of his presidential term. However, realizing his dreams is much more difficult than making plans on paper.

The new Acting Head of the Pentagon, Christopher Miller, appointed after the resignation of Mark Esper, stated the need to complete all wars with U.S. participation, reports TASS, referring to The Hill.

The publication cites the text of a memorandum sent to employees of the agency.

“We are not a people who constantly fight, it contradicts everything that we stand for and what our ancestors fought for. All wars must end,” wrote Miller.

He also noted that the U.S. “remains committed to ending the war” in Afghanistan.

Washington should “avoid the previous strategic mistake of not ending the war,” he said.

The current situation in afghanistan, he said, is one in which u.s. forces must “move from leadership to a supporting role.

The Hill notes that since Esper’s resignation, there have been suggestions that the Donald Trump administration intends to withdraw quickly from afghanistan. Earlier, the Axios news portal also reported this.

According to his sources, that is because acting defense minister Miller has appointed retired colonel Douglas McGregor, who advocates the return of u.s. troops in Afghanistan and Syria, as his senior advisor.

Earlier, Trump had retired U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and appointed Christopher Miller, head of the National Counterterrorism Center, to serve as acting head of the Pentagon. Joseph kernan, acting deputy secretary of defense for intelligence, and James Anderson, acting deputy secretary of defense for political affairs, then resigned.
