Former U.S. first lady Melania Trump broke another tradition: she did not thank the White House staff for their work.
We are talking about the traditional notes that first ladies leave at the residence before leaving. They usually thank staff, especially those they know personally, for their work. Sources said most of the correspondence includes personal jokes, and such letters become “cherished gifts” for White House staff.
About 80 staffers who received the letters thought they were signed by Melania herself. In fact, she had one of them prepare the notes as if she had done it herself.
On January 19, it was reported that Melania Trump refused to invite Jill Biden, the wife of the U.S. president-elect, to a White House hospitality tour. In doing so, she once again broke a tradition that has lasted for more than 70 years.
Michelle Obama, the wife of the 44th president of the United States, invited Melania Trump in 2016, but the wife of the current U.S. president did not send Jill Biden a similar invitation.
