Merkel and Biden discussed Nord Stream 2

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Joe Biden discussed the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. During the conversation, the American side outlined its position.

It is noted that to solve the problem, the U.S. wants to see a package solution from Germany. The priority of the Biden administration, as well as of the previous US government, remains to reduce dependence of the Europeans on the Russian natural gas and to include Ukraine into the European gas infrastructure.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that the fate of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline will be decided in the coming weeks or months. He did not rule out that the project would be cancelled although he admitted that the White House had become more open to dialogue after the change of power.

Earlier, Gazprom had talked about the possibility of failure, nevertheless the barge Fortuna resumed construction in Danish waters.
