The wife of former US President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, said that after the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the 2016 elections, she helped his wife Melania Trump settle in the White House, despite her dislike of the new head of state. She reported on her communication with the current first lady on Instagram.
Obama stressed that she did not forget how Trump spread about her husband “racist lies”, because of which, she said, her family was at risk.
“I was not ready to forgive it. But I knew that for the sake of our country, I must find the strength to moderate my anger, ”she wrote. In the same post, she says that she cordially invited Melania Trump to the residence of the American President, shared her experience and answered all her questions.
“I knew this was the right thing to do, because our democracy is much bigger than anyone’s ego,” the wife of the 44th President of the United States emphasized, adding that any election results should be recognized, and not “played along with baseless conspiracy theories,” threatening democratic system. She ended the post by calling on Americans, “especially the leaders of our nation,” to support a soft transfer of power, as American presidents have done throughout US history.
By Trump’s “racist lies”, the former first lady supposedly meant that the Republican supported the theory of Barack Obama’s foreign origin. According to her, he was born outside the borders of the United States, so he served as president in violation of the American constitution.
On November 16, current US President Donald Trump announced twice on Twitter that he had won the 2020 election against existing results.
On November 7, Democratic candidate Joe Biden won 290 with the required 270 electoral votes. Having secured his victory, he declared himself the President-elect of the United States. Trump, in turn, said that the elections are not officially over yet, and the results will be appealed in court. He believes that Biden was quick to call himself the country’s new leader.
