Microsoft has confirmed that it is closing all of its Microsoft Store locations worldwide.
According to The Verge, the plan to close all physical stores was developed in anticipation of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the global exposure to the virus accelerated this process. Four premium locations will be retained – New York City (Fifth Avenue), London (Oxford Circus), Sydney (Westfield Sydney), and Redmond University Campus – they will be transformed into “experience centers.”
The company says there will be no layoffs as a result of these changes. It is noted that the brand will focus on digital retail, online sales of Microsoft, Xbox and Windows cover “up to 1.2 billion monthly customers in 190 markets.”
