Microsoft may introduce another more affordable gaming console called the Xbox Series S this August
It is reported by The Verge.
So, for a long time there were rumors that Microsoft was working immediately on two models of the next generation gaming console.
A powerful console called the Xbox Series X, the corporation has already introduced. In the new console, in particular, a solid-state SSD-drive is installed, which works many times faster than outdated solid-state drives. This will speed up the loading of games. In addition, with support for up to 120 frames per second, the Xbox Series X will allow you to exceed the standard threshold of 60 frames per second to create more realistic and dynamic actions. The console is scheduled for release at the end of 2020.
Now it’s become known that in the near future the announcement of another Xbox Series S console (featured under the code name Lockhart) will take place. The publication Eurogamer, citing informed sources, reports that this will happen in August, although it was originally planned to hold an announcement in June.
Lockhart is a more affordable (cheaper) version of the game console. This is the direct “heir” of the Xbox One S console, which will be released under the commercial name Xbox Series S.
“Microsoft has been working on this second cheaper next-generation Xbox for several months now,” writes The Verge.
Earlier, a Microsoft document appeared on the Web, indirectly confirming the development of a “budget” console.
According to available information, the Lockhart model will receive a processor with the same frequencies as the Xbox Series X. However, the “budget” version will have 7.5 GB of RAM available (versus 13.5 GB for the Xbox Series X).
The graphics processor in the Xbox Series S will be less productive than in a more powerful console. So, the graphics performance of the new console will be about 4 teraflops (versus 12 teraflops in the Xbox Series X).
It is expected that in August, Microsoft officially announces the Lockhart console and prices for both new-generation Xbox devices. Prices are likely to be somehow related to the cost of subscribing to the Xbox All Access service.
REFERENCE. Teraflops (TFLOPS) – a value used to measure the performance of computers. 1 teraflops = 1 trillion operations per second.
Xbox is a series of stationary consoles from Microsoft. The first prefix entered the market on November 15, 2001, the last on November 7, 2017.
