A new study from the University of Kansas provides compelling evidence that mosquitoes are unable to transmit coronavirus to us through bite.
This question worried millions of people – can mosquitoes, which can transmit malaria and some other diseases to us, also infect COVID-19? Stephen Higgs and his team tested 3 of the most common mosquito species in the United States and found it impossible.
Scientists have tried to infect Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes with coronavirus, but it turned out that COVID-19 does not multiply in these insects. Accordingly, it cannot be transmitted to people.
This is the first reliable evidence that mosquitoes pose no threat of COVID-19 infection. The results are published in Scientific Report.
