The United States National Aerospace Agency (NASA) rover Perserverance will deliver a commemorative plaque to the surface of Mars as a sign of respect to physicians struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic
This was reported in the NASA Rocket Movement Laboratory.
As NASA noted, the Mars 2020 mission team “is acutely aware of the dedication and hard work of people in the medical community around the world during a pandemic.”
As a sign of respect to medical workers, an aluminum plate was attached to the Perseverance rover, which next month will go to Mars in order to explore the geology of the landing site – Gesero Crater. It depicts the Earth and the staff of Asclepius – a symbol of medicine. Its dimensions are 8 by 13 cm.
“We wanted to show our appreciation to those who have compromised their personal well-being for the benefit of others. We hope that when future generations go to Mars and meet our rover, they will remember that there were such people on Earth in 2020, ”said Matt Wallace, Perseverance Deputy Project Manager.
