New U.S. sanctions against Russia go into effect

U.S. sanctions, which prohibit U.S. companies to buy new Russian ruble-denominated government bonds, came into force.

“The new restrictions, in particular, prohibit American financial institutions from buying Russian government bonds in their initial public offerings. However, they will still be able to buy and sell Russian government bonds on the secondary market,” the report said.

According to Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, the new sanctions will not affect the borrowing strategy in any way. He noted that the Ministry had put all possible restrictions in it.

Siluanov called the sanctions unpleasant, but not critical.

Earlier it was reported that the United States wants to act in accordance with the provisions of the law on chemical and biological weapons, requiring the introduction of the second package of anti-Russian sanctions. It is not known exactly what kind of restrictions are in question.
