New wave of violence in Chicago – 5 killed, 44 wounded over the weekend

At least 5 people were killed and 44 others were injured in shootings in Chicago over the weekend, according to Chicago authorities.

In the first incident of the weekend, a 31-year-old man was shot and killed around 05:19 p.m. According to police, the man was standing on the sidewalk near the 6300 block of South King Drive when a light-colored car pulled up and an unknown perpetrator inside began shooting. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The woman, along with a 15-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man, were standing outside when they were “shot from a distance” by an unknown man. The woman was shot in the head and died on the spot.

The 24-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Early Sunday morning there were two fatal shootings an hour apart.
