New York Mayor Bill de Blasio asked local residents to cut electricity consumption in order to avoid interruptions.
According to him, a wave of abnormal heat creates “a really big load” on the electric network of the city.
On Wednesday, the mayor urged residents to turn off air conditioners if possible and to avoid using appliances such as microwaves and washing machines until Thursday morning.
“This is a very serious issue. We have to make sure our power supply is protected,” he said.
