In Kebbi State, Nigeria, a group of armed gunmen attacked a local school.
“They killed a policeman, broke through the gate and went right into the classrooms with the students,” one of the teachers said.
The militants kidnapped at least 80 children as well as five teachers. One of the students was wounded.
State officials said the exact number of people abducted is unknown at this time. Police are combing the nearby woods in search of the children.
It should be noted that the militants kidnap schoolchildren in order to demand a ransom. Since last December, about 800 students have been kidnapped in this way. Authorities usually blame Boko Haram for the kidnappings.
