The first cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in Antarctica, leaving no continent in the world unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the newspaper, the coronavirus was detected in 36 employees of the Chilean Antarctic station General-Bernardo O’Higgins. 26 of them – military personnel, the remaining 10 – employees of the contractor servicing the station. All of them have been evacuated and are under medical supervision.
On December 17, it was reported that the coronavirus was detected in three crew members of the ship Sargento Aldea, which visited the base in late November – early December.
