The Premier League clubs (Premier League) will lose a total of about a billion pounds (1.1 billion euros) due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported by BBC Sport, citing a study by a consulting company Deloitte.
The drop in income is due to the lack of spectators in the remaining matches of this season. In addition, teams will receive less money from sponsorship deals and sale of rights to broadcast meetings.
Last season, Premier League teams earned a record 5.2 billion pounds (5.7 billion euros). The total income of European football leagues last season reached 26 million pounds (28.9 billion euros).
The football championship of England was suspended in early March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The resumption of the tournament is scheduled for June 17. At the time of the pause in the tournament, Liverpool was the sole leader. Merseysides are ahead of the closest pursuer – Manchester City – by 25 points.
