Number of victims of gas explosion in central Madrid rises to 11

The number of victims of a gas explosion in the center of Madrid has risen to 11. Three people have been killed and one is missing. The victim was a 35-year-old electrician who was repairing a boiler, reports MIR 24.

This repair was most likely the cause of the explosion. Completely or partially destroyed the top five floors of the seven-story building. Rescue workers are still unable to begin removing the rubble, since the gas in the house continues to burn out and the dangling structures can collapse at any moment. In a few hours the builders will demolish all the collapsed floors, immediately after which teams of dog handlers will begin to search for those who may be under the rubble.

The building belongs to the Archdiocese of Moscow and is home to a local church. Pope Francis expressed his condolences to the victims’ families.
