Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is not on the field for the game when Napoli face Calvin Bassey’s Ajax in their UEFA Champions League group stage game on Tuesday (today) according to the PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
It is believed that the Super Eagles striker was expected to sit in the sidelines for the Partenopeans match in Amsterdam However, reports from Italy show that he’s not yet fully fit.
Osimhen has been off the field since sept. 7 in the event that he suffered an injury to his hamstring during Napoli’s victory by 4-1 against Liverpool.
The injury was expected to prevent him from action for up to six weeks, and caused him to be unable to play Nigeria’s friendly game against Algeria in the month of June.
There was a previous report about the possibility that the previous Lille man was in the squad at the time Napoli took on Ola Aina’s Torino However, he would be a mere spectator in the seats.
However it appears that the Nigerian striker could need to wait until next weekend to resume his return.
As per Napoli Magazine, Osimhen is close to a full recovery. However, taking into consideration Giovanni Simeone and Giacomo Raspadori’s performance, they’re not in a rush to take the Nigerian striker into the middle of the action, and could cause further injuries to their star player.
But, Osimhen would likely make his return to Cremonese against his countryman Cyriel Dessers this Saturday.
