German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier appointed parliamentary elections (Bundestag) at the end of 2021, TASS reported citing the Office of the President.
Elections to the Bundestag of the 20th convocation will be held on September 26, 2021. Prior to that the government of Germany offered to hold elections at that time.
Recall that the elections in Germany determine not only the composition of the Bundestag, but also the Cabinet, which is headed by the Chancellor. Germans vote for parties, each of which nominates its candidate for head of government. The cabinet is formed by the party with an absolute majority or by a coalition of several political forces.
At the moment, Germany is ruled by a coalition of the Christian Democratic Union, the Christian-Social Union and the SPD.
Earlier in July, the media called Angela Merkel the driving force of the EU. According to journalists, it was the Chancellor who contributed to the agreement of EU leaders to create a fund of 750 billion euros to help EU members in the fight against the economic consequences of the pandemic.
