Politico: Iran is plotting to assassinate US Ambassador to South Africa

The Iranian government is preparing a conspiracy to assassinate US Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa Lana Marks. This is reported by Politico, citing an official familiar with the United States intelligence report.

It is noted that Tehran is looking for ways to take revenge on American leader Donald Trump for the assassination of Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general Qasem Soleimani in January this year.

The publication draws attention to the fact that in the event of a successful outcome of the conspiracy, relations between the United States and Iran may deteriorate significantly, in which case Trump will be faced with the question of whether to retaliate.

It is known that United States officials were aware of the threat against their ambassador in the spring, but in recent weeks this threat has become more tangible. According to a spokesman for the US government, the Iranian embassy in Pretoria was involved in the conspiracy.
