U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the results of the parliamentary elections in Venezuela will not reflect the will of the people.
“Electoral fraud has already happened in Venezuela. The results reported by the illegitimate regime of Nicolas Maduro will not reflect the will of the Venezuelan people. What’s happening today is falsification and fraud, not elections,” Pompeo wrote on Twitter.
Elections to the unicameral parliament of Venezuela, the National Assembly, are held on Sunday, with 107 political parties and associations participating. More than 20 parties, including the opposition party Juan Guaydo, refused to participate in the vote. At the same time, Maduro had already stated that he was ready to leave his post if the opposition won.
