Pompeo demanded explanations from Russia on Navalny situation

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo demanded explanations from Russia about the situation with Alexei Navalny. He said this in an interview with journalist Ben Shapiro.

In particular, Pompeo was asked to comment on reports of allegedly repeated attempts to poison Navalny. The secretary of state responded that the U.S. side continues to evaluate the information, including what it already knows.

“We (…) were among the first to criticize this incredibly malicious activity and demand that Russia explain to us exactly how it happened, who did it. We are still waiting for those answers,” he added.

That the blogger Alexei Navalny had been “poisoned” twice, a British newspaper earlier reported, citing anonymous sources in Western intelligence. The second attempt was allegedly made while Navalny was in a coma.

Navalny became ill on August 20 during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow. For the first two days he was treated in the Omsk hospital and then transferred to a clinic in Berlin. German experts declared that the opposition leader had been poisoned with a substance from the Novichok group. Russian doctors did not find any traces of poisons in the patient’s body.
