Pompeo was pleased with talks between Kabul and Taliban

The Afghan authorities and the Taliban movement (banned in Russia) have made progress in the negotiations and should not stop there, said US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“I welcome the work of both sides as they continued negotiations and made progress. I urge you to actively continue discussions on a political settlement and a complete and indefinite ceasefire,” he tweeted.

Pompeo confirmed that during his visit to Doha on Saturday, he met with both Taliban negotiators and representatives from Kabul.

In Qatar, the Taliban and representatives of the Afghan leadership are holding talks aimed at resolving a long-term armed conflict.

The Taliban movement is recognized as terrorist in accordance with Russian legislation and is prohibited in Russia.
