Francis was in conflict with Trump on a number of issues, including China, climate change, Cuba and migration
Pope Francis expressed his “blessings and congratulations” to US President-elect Joe Biden. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the team Biden. The publication concludes that in this way the Pope seeks to restore relations with Washington after four years of sometimes controversial relations with President Donald Trump.
Francis has been in conflict with Trump on a number of issues, including China, climate change, Cuba and migration.
“(Biden) expressed a desire to work together on the basis of a shared belief in the dignity and equality of all humanity on issues such as caring for the marginalized and poor, overcoming the climate change crisis, and integrating immigrants and refugees into our communities,” it said.
Biden, who attends Mass on Sundays, will be the first American Catholic president after his fellow Democrat John F. Kennedy in the 1960s.
Conservative American Catholics, many of whom voted for Trump, said that priests should not have communion with Biden because of his attitude toward abortion.
