Pope is hospitalized in an emergency: he will undergo a planned operation

Pope Francis was hospitalized on Sunday, June 4, in an emergency, the press office of the Holy See announced.

This was announced by the press service of the Holy See.

It is specified that the Pope will undergo planned intestinal surgery at a local clinic.

“This afternoon, Pope Francis went to the A. Gemelli Clinic, where he will undergo a planned surgery for symptomatic colorectal stenosis,” the statement said.

The surgery will be performed by Professor Sergio Aufieri. Remarkably, the 83-year-old pope will undergo a planned intervention because of symptomatic diverticular stenosis of the large intestine.
